How to Add a Video to Your Booking.com and Expedia Listing
· 8 min read
Listen to this guide
You can add a video to your Expedia listing today: Expedia Group accepts one short property video, filmed vertically and roughly 10 to 30 seconds long, uploaded through its partner content tools. Booking.com is a different story. As of July 2026 it does not accept videos in the property gallery at all; the only video upload in its extranet exists to verify a new property’s location and never appears on your listing. This guide covers the specs Expedia publishes, how the upload works, and what to do with your video while Booking.com sticks to photos.
| Platform | Video on your listing? | Specs snapshot |
|---|---|---|
| Expedia (hotels) | Yes, one per property | 9:16 vertical, 1080x1920+, ~10 to 30s, mp4/mov |
| Vrbo (vacation rentals) | Yes, video tours | 15s to 2 min, 9:16 or 16:9, up to 500 MB |
| Booking.com | Not yet | Photos only; verification video is internal |
| Google Business Profile | Yes | Up to 30s, up to 75 MB, 720p or higher |
Adding a video to your Expedia listing
Expedia Group has been rolling video out across its lodging listings, and its published guidance is unusually specific. The workflow:
- Prepare the file to spec (details below). Getting rejected and re-reviewed costs you days, so it pays to be exact.
- Upload through Partner Central in the property content and media section. Availability has been expanding market by market; if you do not see a video option on your account, ask your market manager or partner support to enable it.
- Wait for review. Uploads are checked against the content rules before going live.
- One video per property. Expedia accepts a single listing video, so make it your best 30 seconds, not a highlight reel of everything.
The current published specs, per Expedia Group’s video guidelines:
- Format mp4 or mov, filmed in portrait (9:16).
- Resolution 1080x1920 or higher, minimum 30 fps. 4K is not supported.
- 10 to 30 seconds, 40 seconds maximum.
- Show the property: 2 or 3 areas such as exterior, lobby, rooms, pool or dining. Surroundings may appear, but the property is the star.
- No prices, promotions, discount claims or time-sensitive offers.
- No slideshows or montages of still photos; it must be real motion.
- Plan for silence: listing videos autoplay muted in most placements, and current guidance says to skip music and voiceover.
These rules do evolve, so treat Partner Central as the source of truth on the day you upload.
If your property lists on Vrbo
Vacation rentals get more room: Vrbo’s video guidelines accept tours from 15 seconds up to 2 minutes, in 9:16 or 16:9, up to 500 MB, with the same spirit: property first, up to about 20% of the runtime on nearby attractions, and no still-photo slideshows.
The Booking.com situation, honestly
Booking.com’s own partner documentation is unambiguous: the property gallery accepts photos only, and uploading videos to it is not possible. The video upload you may have seen in the extranet belongs to location verification for new listings: it must show the street sign and walk through the interior, it expires if older than three weeks, and travelers never see it. Do not try to use it as a promo slot; it is reviewed for verification, not published.
Partners keep requesting gallery video in Booking.com’s partner community, and there is no announced timeline. Until that changes, your video budget still has three strong placements that Booking.com guests will see anyway:
- Your photo gallery, upgraded. Export the best frames of your video as stills. A well-graded video frame often beats the phone photos many galleries run on.
- Google Business Profile. Travelers who find you on Booking.com routinely cross-check your hotel on Google. GBP accepts videos up to 30 seconds, 75 MB and at least 720p (see BrightLocal’s current rundown), and they appear right in your knowledge panel.
- Your own website and social. The same cross-checking traveler lands on your site, where video is unrestricted, autoplay loops work, and a direct booking saves you the commission. Given that Expedia Group’s 2025 research found video influences booking decisions nearly 3x more than photos, the highest-value place for it may be the channel you fully control.
Prepare one file that works everywhere
- Master: vertical 9:16, 1080x1920, H.264 mp4, 15 to 30 seconds. This single file satisfies Expedia, Google Business Profile and every social platform.
- Keep it clean: no burned-in prices, promo text, logos or countdowns. Text baked into the video is the most common reason OTA uploads get rejected, and it dates instantly.
- Do not upscale to 4K: Expedia does not support it, and platforms recompress everything anyway.
- Lead with your best space: the first frame doubles as the poster image in several placements.
- Keep a 16:9 version for your website hero and YouTube, cut from the same shoot or generation batch. Not sure what producing all this should cost? Our 2026 pricing guide breaks down every route, and our examples guide shows what listing-ready clips look like.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a video to my Booking.com listing in 2026?
No. As of July 2026, Booking.com only accepts photos in the property gallery. The one video upload that exists in the extranet is for verifying a new property's location, and it is never shown to travelers. If that changes we will update this guide.
What video specs does Expedia require for hotel listings?
Per Expedia Group's published guidelines: one video per property, mp4 or mov, filmed vertically in 9:16 at 1080x1920 or higher (4K is not supported), roughly 10 to 30 seconds with 40 as the hard ceiling, focused on the property itself, with no prices, promotions or slideshows of still photos. Always confirm the current rules in Partner Central before uploading, they do evolve.
Do OTA listing videos increase bookings?
Expedia Group's own 2025 Science of Wanderlust study of 7,000 travelers found video influences booking decisions nearly three times more than static photos (71% versus 24%). Expedia would not build a video pipeline for listings if it did not move conversion.
Can I use the same video on Expedia, Google and social media?
Yes, if you plan it that way: keep one vertical 9:16 master of 15 to 30 seconds, and export a clean version with no burned-in text, prices or logos for OTA use. The text-free master also works on Google Business Profile (up to 30 seconds) and as a base for social cutdowns.
